Terry Cai, the Chairman and manager director, senior architect of ANS, worked in the Design Institute of Tongji University from 1991 to 1994 after he graduated from Tongji University with a Batchelor Degree in Architecture. He was involved in variety of projects ranging from Urban Design, commercial, residential, office complexes to other public buildings and progressed to an architect and team leader in 1993. In the second half year of 1994, Terry joined Kenreal a Hong Kong Company as a Project Manager for “Contemporary Villa” projects in Shanghai, participating in the whole process from Market Survey, Land Negotiation, Master Planning, to Architecture design. In 1995, he was appointed as a Senior Project Manager, in charge of Design Management and the liaison with government departments to public department and the design management as well.
Terry worked with NEOL ROBINSON ARCHITECTS when he moved to Australia in 1997. He participated in several residential, commercial and comprehensive projects both in Australia and China, together with focus on marketing to the Chinese markets. In 1998, Terry, as a major coordinator, won the bid of Jiangbei New town in Chongqing, which is a large-scale controlling planning and urban design project in downtown area. In 2000, the Oasis Island Residential Precinct in Shanghai, in which he worked as a Principal Designer, won the Residential Golden Prize of ‘Innovation storm’ and also in 2001 it won the ‘Shanghai Residential Design Golden Prize’. After that, he led the design team on the new ‘Garden Villa’ (Shanghai), ‘Jiahua Riverside’ (Shanghai), ‘Taijidian Residential area’, ‘Rongqiao Residential Island’ (Chongqing) and number of Urban Design projects such as the ‘North Bund Commercial Center’ (Shanghai), ‘Southwest Political and Law University’ (Chongqing), ‘Nanjing Library’, and other pubic buildings. Furthermore, he was involved in several projects such as ‘Sun Co Suncity’ in Tianjin, ‘Jinjiang International Community’ in Wuhan, ‘Xuhui Brass Villa’ in Shanghai, and ‘Ching Mai View Villa’ in Thailand.
As an internationalized architect, Terry Cai has accumulated trans-cultural and trans-regional design experiences. His pragmatic approach and concern for the city’s development makes his ideas commercially realizable with focus on improving urban humanity. In addition, Terry is an excellent communicator with special abilities to bridge social, region and cultural divides. His natural leadership instincts motivate his staff and reassure clients.
